Reds will
wait and see over Evans
May 16 2008
Wrexham are going to play a waiting game with Steve Evans,
writes Richard Williams.
Centre-back Evans is out of contract and manager Brian
Little is hoping that the Wales international will stay with
Reds whom he joined in the summer of 2006 following a lengthy
spell with Welsh Premier League outfit The New Saints.
Talks have been on-going between both parties, and Evans'
future was again on the agenda yesterday.
A verbal offer has been made, but first team coach Martin
Foyle said that the club and Evans were willing to wait before
committing themselves.
"Steve is happy with the deal we have put to him and has shown
good vibes about staying," said Foyle today.
"The offer has not been made in writing so nothing has been
signed – there is an open ended agenda.
"We are leaving it for now.
"There is no hurry for either side.
"Steve wants to have a look elsewhere which he is entitled to
do, and we are looking around. It's not a problem and we are
quite happy to wait.
"The verbal offer has been made and is still on the table."
The recruitment of new players following the decision to
inform 22 players that they have no future at The Racecourse
has continued this week with Little, Foyle and Brian Carey
speaking to targets.
A number of players have met the trio and been shown around
the Racecourse Ground and Colliers Park training ground, and
Foyle said first impressions have been favourable.
"Four or five players have come in and had a look around so
see if it is right for them to come to Wrexham," said Foyle.
"We have had good vibes from them that they would be
interested in joining us.
"We are waiting on their decisions but we will give them a bit
of breathing space now.
"It is still early and I don't think anything will happen for
a week or two."
Meanwhile, Wrexham have announced their first pre-season
friendly.
Wrexham will entertain League One outfit Wolverhampton
Wanderers at The Racecourse on Saturday July 12 (3pm
kick-off).
