I had
no option but to start again

On Sunday
Brian Little has insisted he had no option but to start again
with Wrexham.
And
the Red Dragons boss – who has just 11 players left after
axing 22 of his first-team squad following the drop into the
Conference – claimed he has no fear in rebuilding a team
almost from scratch at the Racecourse.
“I genuinely feel I need to change the team around – and if a
few people disagree, they disagree,” said the former Aston
Villa chief.
“But I think, overall, the majority will accept this team
needed changing ahead of next season and that’s what we’ve
tried to do.
“We’ll only find out if it works next season and I’ve listened
to the arguments that I should give some of the lads a chance
in the Conference.
“But if we were mid-table next Christmas and I had not used an
opportunity to change things and make a difference then not
many people would be very happy with me.
“The club is in a better position off the field than it has
been for several years and we have to change fortunes on it.
From my point of view I’m not frightened to attempt what I’m
doing.”
Some 22 players were told they had no future in North Wales by
Little last week, the majority saying goodbye after short-term
or loan deals while others were either told they would not be
offered new contracts and some placed on the transfer list.
Wales defender Steve Evans could also add his name to those
not at the Racecourse next season with the ex-TNS man meeting
Little again next week. Former captain Neil Roberts could also
return – albeit on a significantly reduced contract.
