Exclusive Welsh
football

March 18 2008
S4C has won exclusive live coverage of Wales’ important
football friendlies against Luxembourg and Iceland in the run
up to the national team’s forthcoming World Cup qualifying
campaign.
S4C will broadcast Luxembourg v Wales in full from the Stade
Josy Barthel in Luxembourg City on Wednesday, 26 March at
7.00pm in a special edition of Y Clwb Pêl-droed Rhyngwladol.
In addition to full coverage of the Luxembourg match, S4C will
also broadcast exclusive highlights of the Wales Under 21
match against Bosnia Herzegovina, a game crucial to the team’s
progress in the UEFA European U21 championships 2007/2009.
Viewers can see these highlights directly after the live
coverage of Luxembourg v Wales.
S4C will broadcast the Iceland v Wales match live at the end
of May.
Luxembourg v Wales is the first match to be produced by Rondo
Media Ltd - a merger between TV companies Nant and Opus TF.
Rondo Media won the contract to deliver Welsh international
football, Welsh Premier League and Welsh Cup content for S4C
following an open tendering process.
Geraint Rowlands, S4C Content Editor Sport, said, “After a
fantastic result against Norway, Cardiff City’s success in the
English FA Cup and a great season for Swansea, there’s a lot
of interest in Welsh football at the moment. By showing the
Luxembourg and Iceland friendlies – as well as the other
exclusive matches and highlights - S4C once again demonstrates
its commitment to Welsh football.
“It’s an exciting time as John Toshack builds strong
foundations to the team’s 2010 World Cup campaign and as the
Under 21 team try to reach the finals of the European U21
championships. These games will be a natural and important
extension to our international football provision and our
sports portfolio.”
